The Ruth McBride Scholarship

The Ruth McBride Girls in the Game Scholarship is a named four-year scholarship.  When we say “Girls in the Game is a game-changer,” we mean it.   Each Ruth McBride Scholarship will change the game for one Chicago high school girl.  The recipient of the Ruth McBride Scholarship will be one of forty members of the Girls in the Game Teen Squad.  During her four years of high school, along with other teen girls from all over Chicago, she will be trained in a variety of energizing sports and games, study yoga, learn to eat smart, and be develop new strategies to help her resolve conflicts and reduce whatever violence is in her life.

Teen Programs are open to any girl grades 9-12, whether she’s been involved in Girls in the Game before or not.

The Team Squad will be coached by Girls in the Game’s award-winning staff to develop their skills as strong and confident leaders. As a trained leader, they will lead workshops and teach what they have learned about living a healthier lifestyle to younger girls. In exchange for making a difference in the lives of other girls, the recipients of the Ruth D. McBride Scholarship will earn significant scholarship dollars for college tuition, textbooks, or the technical training of her choice.

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP

Girls in grades 9-12 use the skills they’ve learned through Girls in the Game programs to educate adults, their peers and younger girls about the benefits of sports and girls’ health issues. Throughout Chicago, our teens are serving as Girls in the Game ambassadors by leading interactive sports and health workshops in schools and parks, meeting with corporate leaders about the needs of girls, expanding their knowledge on sports and health-related careers and representing Girls in the Game within the community.

The Ruth McBride Scholarship will sponsor at least one four-year scholarship each year.  However, the more we raise, the more girls we can help.  It is a unique, exciting and inspiring force for change, just like Ruth herself.

This is just one of the many programs offered by Girls in the Game to help young girls.

One more fact about Girls in the Game Scholarships: 100% of the girls who received scholarships in our 2013 Teen Squad high school program have gone on to college. Isn't that terrific?
